I do recommend adults/parents see Fast Food Nation. I did enjoy the movie, the cast, and performances. However, I recommend adults/parents DO NOT take children to this movie. Let me break it down. The main problem is both the movie theater trailer and the tv spots. They come off making you think this movie is a laugh out loud, comical, satirical movie based on a best selling book. What they don't show you are the down and dirty parts of the movie, of course. These things being stuff, kids should not see.
Some spoilage to follow.
Yeah, you'll hear some swear words. There are two sex scenes. The most we see is a woman's naked breast. It's a great breast, by the way. There's a big factory machine accident. (the blood goes everywhere)
The big moment is towards the end. One of the last sequences, graphically (in your face) involves director Richard Linklater showing the audience exactly how you get a burger patty from a cow. You'll know when this scene is coming as it slowly and quietly builds to it. It is very powerful. It's involves two characters. The factory manager is escorting the female worker through...the kill room.
YOU WILL SEE
- A live cow
- An electrical gun(?) put to the head of said cow
- POP! the cow is dead
- A hanging cow's neck is sliced open and gallons of blood pour out (this is real! it ain't no SFX)
- The cow's legs being cut off and tossed aside
- The hide/skin is literally peeled off the cow (as if it were a banana)
- Skinless cow heads, with eyeballs intact, are put into a piles
Will I stop eating meat? Unfortunately, no. I am a meat eater for life. Again, I like the movie and think it's one of Linklater's best.
